Work

Listing down some of the most notable and important work for me personally. I've enjoyed working on different problem spaces, making impact to the users and internally, as well as leading a relatively small team.

Tripadvisor

After a short stint at Shopify, I decided to move to Tripadvisor, also based in Singapore. Travel is a bit of an underdog during COVID-19 pandemic, but I think it's full of exciting challenges and opportunities. I also came from travel space before, so it's a bit of a familiar space.

I am now working on the Vacation Rentals products for Tripadvisor, including Holiday Lettings. Previously, I also worked on Tripadvisor Plus and Experiences. I work within the Singapore team, working collaboratively with product and engineering in India and Romania (for Vacation Rentals), and USA (for Plus and Experiences).

Shopify

In May 2020, I joined Shopify in their International Growth team focusing on China and the APAC markets. As a Senior Product Designer, I am back in the individual contributor role to learn about issues and opportunities in e-commerce in the China and Asia Pacific markets and how to shape Shopify as a product that understands the needs of merchants in this region. I work with other designers, product manager, engineers and researchers across different countries in Asia Pacific to improve the Shopify experience for them.

Vrbo (an Expedia company)

As a Senior Design Manager (2019-2020) and Lead Designer (2016-2019) for Vrbo, a global vacation rental marketplace, I led a team of designers across Asia Pacific, namely in India, Singapore and Australia. We worked on multiple portfolios including Stay, Global Acceleration and Growth. Stay experience encompasses post-booking experience, from managing the pre-trip communication, check-in process, activities up to the point they check out. Global Acceleration is a special cross-functionality project that speeds up launches in local markets. We successfully launched Singapore, Japan, Sri Lanka as unique platforms and eventually the rest of Asia Pacific. Growth projects include top-of-funnel initiatives like driving sign-ups and logins, optimizing search, as well as affiliates.

DBS Bank

As AVP Product Design at DBS Bank, and one of the pioneering UX team members, I helped the team start off the ground and lay some of the foundation for some notable projects including digital banking onboarding and mobile app experience. When I was there, our team was relatively small (about 8 people) and we operated like a startup within a corporation. We learned to do things ourselves from being a designer, initiating research, conducting walkthrough and workshops, and guiding engineers. Across this process we also disseminate and educate the importance of UX and proper product design process in a business-oriented organization.

Other experiences

I have also worked for Ice House (where I first learned how to manage a design team, facilitate design workshops and pitch design solutions to clients), Bukalapak (where I had my first startup experience building for e-commerce in its seed stage) and Oracle (my first job out of university, when I learned how to work in a large organization and work for a purpose—education).

Leadership Q&A

I made a summary on my thoughts & principles related to UX leadership, in the form of Q&A and examples from real experiences.
